This session will focus on phonic knowledge and understanding for staff working in KS2, who have little or no experience of teaching phonics but who are working with children who still need phonics teaching. All schools, regardless of the age group taught, will be expected by Ofsted to 'pay particular attention to pupils who are reading below age-related expectations' and they will 'assess how well the school is teaching phonics and supporting all children to become confident, fluent readers'.

We will look at what phonics is, best practice for teaching phonics, and will have time to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about specific children or groups in your class.
